What gifts do you think your family and friends are getting for you? What do you want? What are you getting for them? etc. It doesn't have to be fish-related, but I do want to here the fish-related things you want for Christmas.

How do you know it’s a hoverboard? Maybe it’s a big phone
Because the box is very big and rectangular and I opened it just a little, very little and saw the box and knew it was a hoverboard. Besides, I put that on my Xmas wish list.

I only wish I could pick out a gift for my wife. Actually two gifts as her Birthday is on the 26th.
Right now with zero ideas and zero gumption to shop it looks like a check, gift card or cash?

One set of kids can't come, the other is going to be in quarantine and the third might come Christmas Day. So, for Christmas this year, they all get money. For the son in laws they get theirs inside boxes of snacks. The girls are getting family things that have been stored here with money taped to them. If they aren't coming for Christmas, they can buy their own dang gifts lol.

I put a refractometer on my list and I think I'm getting it. My next "tank" may be a an opae ula bowl and figuring out brackish would be impossible. I was naive enough to think you could put a certain amount of salt to a certain amount of water but apparently that's impossible. If I can get that to work, my next tank might even be saltwater.

I was naive enough to think you could put a certain amount of salt to a certain amount of water but apparently that's impossible. If I can get that to work, my next tank might even be saltwater.

Seawater typically has a salt concentration of 35 parts per thousand (35,000 ppm) which produces a specific gravity of about 1.025. Fresh water has a specific gravity of 1.000. Brackish water typically ranges somewhere in the middle, around 1.005 - 1.015.

Refractometers were originally designed to measure the sugar content of wines. They also work for brewing beer. There is a correlation between specific gravity and the sugar content of wine, just as their is a correlation between specific gravity and the salt content of salt water.

Swing arm hydrometers are often used for measuring salinity in aquariums. They are much easier/quicker to use than a refractometer. However, they are not as accurate. When I had several saltwater tanks, I used the swing arm hydrometers to do daily measurements of salinity, but then checked those reading with the refractometer once a week or so to make sure the hydrometer readings were accurate. Thus, it is ideal to have both, but if you can only afford one, go with the refractometer so you know your results are accurate.

Since it is Christmas, I’d like to give the results! I actually got way more for Christmas than I expected. Nothing fish related, but still!! Socks, chocolates, an ornament, a cookie mix, lotion, a key chain, a really nice flashlight, a cookie cutter shaped like a dog, and a Christmas bonus from my boss! That I’ll be using for car repair parts that I needed to order. Also, my sister took my old cell phone to a repair place for Christmas to see if they can get it working again. It had a lot of pictures of my dog before he died of cancer, and there’s a chance I can see them again. And I won’t have to use this lent iPhone anymore. I swear, IPhones hate me

As mentioned in another thread, I got way more thuan I expected. My aunt and uncle got me a gift card to a reptile store, my grandparents got me a dart frog mug and 20 bucks, my parents got me a new 55g tank, my younger brother got me some ghost & manzanita wood, one of my sisters got me some plants, my other sister got me a new led tank light and some fish meds, and from just my mom (double gift!), I got a 55 pack of heirloom vegetable seeds, a little pot of pilea glauca, and a soil meter thingy (measures acidity/alkalinity, soil moisture, and soil heaviness). I’m super excited!
