What do you think you are getting for Christmas

What gifts do you think your family and friends are getting for you? What do you want? What are you getting for them? etc. It doesn't have to be fish-related, but I do want to here the fish-related things you want for Christmas.

Hoping for my Red Rider BB Gun with a compass in the stock and a thing that tells time!

My family is quarantining some fish for me (I haven't set up my own QT tank yet and will get stuff to when I visit them over the holidays)--does that count?

Otherwise, I think I'm getting some books on horticulture and gardening. Or I hope so anyway; I have a knack for guessing my presents and it actually makes me sad since it ruins the surprise, so my family is extra secretive nowadays.

Oooh, I hope it's all three

Personally, I think I'm getting a menu from mum that says "this is Christmas dinner, cook this please"

I only wish I could pick out a gift for my wife. Actually two gifts as her Birthday is on the 26th.
Right now with zero ideas and zero gumption to shop it looks like a check, gift card or cash?

Have you thought about some nice chocolate? maybe a cute scarf? Or a really nice, cozy blanket?

I don’t know what your wife likes, I’m just spiting out ideas.

My sister is getting me a cookie cutter shaped like a dog, but other than that I don’t think I’m getting anything. I can’t think of anything that I want for Christmas either.

I’m making ornaments and cookies and such for everyone, and some people are getting special stuff. Amaryllis for my dad, for example. I really like the idea of people’s Christmas gifts being fun things to enjoy during the holidays, and then birthdays are for big gifts. The dogs are getting harnesses, and hopefully the fish are getting a bigger tank! But neither of those are really for Christmas. More, they need those things soon and Christmas happens to be coming up, lol.

Hm. Well, my birthday is on the 10th (thank you to everybody who wished me a happy birthday here on FishLore!) And for my b'day, I got clothes and a board game. But for Christmas my family is probably gonna get a hoverboard and some aquarium supplies like aqua scaping tools, etc. I want a hoverboard, air pods pro, a new computer, and aquarium supplies. Lol, probably only getting aquarium supplies and a hoverboard. I will try next year tho....

Since my tank has been postponed for a year and a half the pro is I'm asking for the equipment for Christmas! I'm making a diy aquaponics filter which does NOT save money, and it needs lots of parts. Oh and my grandparents are getting me the tank stand, and my awesome grandpa is making it so I can put a 20 gallon on the bottom!
(And I may have asked for and RO filter so I can uh drink more healthy water...NOT and my parents said it could be my wedding gift for when I have my own house to fill with tanks.)
I'm getting one friend a face roller, I thought it looked totally weird and unnecessary and I wanted it and they were pretty inexpensive to boot, so I got two lol. I don't really know about my other friends though.

My family goes hog wild for Christmas. Despite the fact that my sister, cousin, and I are in our late twenties, we still get insanely nice gifts from our grandparents and extended family, which is absurd but really nice. It's not just expensive things - everyone is really thoughtful about it.

I had mentioned a while ago in passing to my sister, a photographer, that I wished I had a nice camera to photograph my tanks with. My grandparents had my gift shipped directly to me last week because we're doing a distant Christmas this year. So now I'm sitting in my apartment with a box in view. And the return label says "B + H Photo".

I have a hunch about that one.

Otherwise, I'm really hoping Santa brings a snazzy ato and a stocking full of gift cards for coral. We'll see!

I prefer buying my fish stuff myself, so nothing tank(s) related. The big part of xmas this year is a new Audio Technica record player and a pair of Galaxy ear buds for working out and walking the dog with.

I'm probably getting some manzanita wood from B&B, some LEDs for my tanks, or some plants. Those are the three easiest things to get on my Christmas list, and I'm certain my family won't bother with the rare & expensive things on there.

Are your musical skills such that they warrant a $20,000 cello? If you are good enough, I hope you get what you are asking for. If not, keep practicing until you are,

I generally order my own gifts for Christmas, birthdays, etc. That way I do not get something I don't want and won't use. My daughter normally sends me an Amazon gift card. I can always find something I can use.

No... but I will make them that good so I can play a $20,000 cello. I’ve only been playing for a year, but I practice a lot and I really love the cello. I dream of playing on something nicer then my cheap Chinese cello.

I think if I could afford a teacher, I might be a prodigy. I’m just broke poor, so I’m self teaching myself.

My parents are getting me money, I am okay with letting them pick, but they didn't know what to pick. So what I'll be doing is planting my 55g (1st planted tank yeah!) and getting ferts. And my grandma is getting me a marineland 5g portrait in combo with my birthday present. Can't wait.

I know I'm getting a microscope for looking at fish-related things. I know because my family members don't beat around the bush when it comes to getting gifts, so they just straight up ask me what I want.

I do the same, so I'm getting my dad some pie weights he wanted. He's tired of wasting his kidney beans on blind bakes.

Yo Yo Ma is more who cellist really aspire to. Luigi Boccherini is good too though.

Yo-Yo Ma is on heck of a cellist! Shoot for the stars and send us letters when you get there!
If there are any music colleges near you, there's probably a poor college student there who would be happy to give you lessons in exchange for a little money (or food, they always appreciate food). There's likely a decent instrument repair shop nearby as well that'll sell/rent you a good cello for a good price. Your teacher may even be able to recommend a good shop or specific brand of cello.

Well, I literally have no money other then a $10 dollar allowance that is used to pay for my pets. I don’t have money to rent anything nice or pay for lessons.

As far as picking out an instrument, I’m very particular about the sound of an instrument. It’s a very very personal thing. You have to love your instrument, the way it sounds, the way it feels, the way it looks.

Every cello is different. A cellist can hear one really expensive cello that they don’t like, and one that they absolutely love.

When/if I do get enough money to pick out the cello I want, it will take a lot of searching to pick the instrument that suits me. It’s almost like a relationship, somewhere out there is your soul mate, you just need to find it (and have enough money, because it’s probably gonna cost a lot).

When a cellist does find their soul mate cello, they will love it and always want to play it. It’s that cello that is meant for you.

I'm getting baby shrimp for Christmas from my shrimp!

...and plants, well, I think you get it.

No clue what the humans in my life will be getting me!

A good cello isn't necessarily expensive; as you said, it's whether or not you like it. Some musicians prefer old, beat-up instruments because they have more "character". I think it would be kind of awesome if a famous cellist played an ex-public high school student rental cello with graffiti all over it. The poor thing could finally have some dignity.

Maybe you could ask for some lessons for Christmas, they're definitely less expensive. I think technique and experience is way more important than the instrument itself.

Whoo, I thought you meant a Vortex diatom filter at first.
First I thought that than I though some new type of test kit. Though I’d have something to get. Sadly let down. But happy shaking Dave!!

Yes. The thing is, most old instruments are either to beat up, or the ones that are playable are expensive, because the older the instrument, the richer and deeper the sound. I do love the sound of older instruments, and that is what I was hoping for. Most decent older instruments are just expensive. Someone near me was selling their old 1900 French cello. I was drooling over that, I was. It was like $4000 though.

I do agree. Technique and experience is far more important when it comes to making a good sound. The problem is, the more technique and experience you have, the more you care about how nice your instrument is. lol

If I sold my dirtbike, I could get a nice cello, but I can’t bring myself to let go of that. I love my dirtbike to much.
