What do you love about the Dark and Black Rams?

Huckleberry77

I have just recently discovered the beauty of Ram Cichlids. As a newbie I just love the wild colors on the GBRs. The Electric blues are nice too, but GBRs are my absolute favorite right now. I don’t understand the fascination with the black rams. Respectfully, why are people breeding out the beautiful colors? The first time I saw black rams I thought, why not just get mollies? I have never seen a black ram in person. Imagine that they must look cooler than just a ram-shaped molly. I must be missing something. Do they have iridescence or spangles or some other awesome qualities that are not apparent to me? I am sincerely interested in understanding better why the black rams are so hot right now. Please enlighten me on what you love about black rams and post your favorite pictures if you are so inclined. I want to “get it.”

I don’t think what you’re used to as the “typical” colors of GBR are being bred out. . . The Black Rams are just another color variant that I think was developed by Danziger Discus Farms in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Like most things in this hobby, our favorite Ram color is a matter of personal preference. These pictures don’t do the beauty of the fish justice, but here’s a few examples. . .

Right, it definitely comes down to personal taste. I can see how those Black Rams have a cool mysterious Moody look to them. Myself, being a Rainbowfish person I guess I am just partial to more intense colors.

Black Ram keepers are a bit moody and mysterious too. :)
