I got a plant at meijers and it has a basket, what do you do with the basket? Do you take it off to plant the roots in the gravel?

    What type of plant?
Generally speaking, I would remove the basket/pot to allow the roots to grow out (like any normal terrestrial plant).
The plant will thank you for it as it won't be 'pot bound'.

That said, plants like crypts will spread and grow new 'shoots' (similar to bamboo), and mosses will also spread out.

Depends on the plant and what you want to achieve.

Take the plant out of the basket pot. They are usually in rock wool as a potting medium, this needs to be removed and as much rinsed off as possible. The plant can then be planted directly into your substrate.
