10 Gallon Tank What could I keep with a betta and two nerites?

Hello,

I'm getting a 10-gallon tank in a couple weeks for my betta. I currently have two nerites and my betta in a 5-gallon tank; I was sold the two nerites from the local pet store saying they wouldn't be much in terms of bio-load, but I was considering adding another companion while upgrading as my betta has not been aggressive to either snail.

My question is would a 10-gallon tank be too small for a betta, two snails, and another companion, or would it be okay, and if so, what companions should I consider? I have a good amount of plants and will be adding some more once I get the 10-gallon set up so I should have enough shade and hiding spots.

Thank you!

In my opinion (can't say factually) a 10g with one Betta and some snails is max. Just because Bettas are VERY territorial. Even if he hasn't shown aggression towards your snails, they're not really a threat to his territory, another fish will be.
I would almost guarantee another fish wouldn't be possible in a 10 gallon. Male Bettas really love their space.
Every fish is different though. Maybe you have a hyper friendly Betta lol.

Bettas are bred to be violent. I don't think it's worth the risk.

Yeah, that was my mindset. I was able to keep an albino bristlenose plecostomus with a Betta in a 10. But that was before he was even over an inch long, obviously had to transition him later.

Agree with above. You are rolling the dice finding tankmates for a Betta in a 10 gallon. I just plant mine heavily and enjoy the aquagarden.

That's also a good idea. I like to use silk plants because I've never had much luck with live ones. It's just better for the betta because their fins are so delicate. Plus the silk looks nicer than plastic.

LOL. Well you could try Hornwort...pretty easy plant to keep and Bettas like to rest in the floating canopy.

Thank you for the suggestions! I think I won’t add any more companions.

As for the aqua garden, I currently have an Amazon sword, two anubias nana, and some Java fern. My last anubias nana melted for a reason I don’t quite know yet but my Java fern seem to be doing well. My current Amazon sword is also melting though, and I’m not sure if it’s acclimating or plain dying.
I will take the hornwort into account, thank you; any other plant suggestions for a maybe kind of beginner/intermediate would be great.

Rotala and ludwiga have gone HAM in my tanks, hydrocotyle, bucephalandra, and cryptocorne have also done well. It’s really a trial and error thing, grab what’s cheap see what grows well in your water!
