I was just given a new 5.5gal tank and set up. I was thinking of using it as a Mickey Mouse Platty nursery. What bottom feeders ca I put in the nursery that won't eat the fry? I was thinking of having an oto or two, or maybe pleco? Any info will be of a great help.

5.5 gal is way too small for a pleco, even a bristlenose. As for otos, they won't eat your fry and you should be ok with two of them in there. They are definitely my favorite algae eater, as they have a lot of personality and aren't afraid to be out and about during the day.

plecos would get to big...ottos would be nice ...I think most algae eaters would eat egg nest not the fry... I think would be safe with a otto.. I would wait for some more responses though....but then you need algae waffers if they tank doesn't have any algae growth in it..and they will eat algae like there's no tommorow...I haven't got my otto to eat algae waffers yet though..it will eat them after they break down a lot though so I guess...but the main thing is ..making sure you can have something for it to eat.. ottos and plecos aren't bottom feeders...loaches and corrys are the only community type bottom feeders..which I don't want to tell you it will be ok and then lose them... I don't have exprience with bottom feeders or algae eater with my fry ... so wiat for some more responses and we will both see if I'm right

Corys get along well with fry.

cories would be the best for a smaller tank like that . ..its really should you have a algae eater or a bottom feeder..I don't use either of those I my nursery tank and don't seem to have problems and my nursey tank is the same size..

Like Cody said, u really don't have the need for one but if u want a few, corys are ur best choice as otos aren't so hardy.

I also have my fry in 5.5 gallon tank and don't use either algae eater or bottom feeder. I have been hesitant to put any in since babies so small still. But tank is doing perfectly fine, just do to mere size I'd feel safer with otto catfish on the glass. Cory catfish would worry me on bottom due to moving rocks and possibly crushing a couple fry.

yeah I would worry about Corys if they were still pretty small ..I didnt think its necessary to have either of them in there

I had been thinking of rasing platys for set to my lfs/lps but they do not buy platys. I was thinking of putting my 3 males it and keep my 6 frmales in my biger tank.
