What betta fish colour is closer to nature/less inbred

I am planning to buy a plakat betta fish and I was wondering what colour is the closest to nature to avoid bad genes (my last betta was very cheap and it developed an internal tumour and probably chronic fin rot). I read that metallics are more prone to blindness, Kois and pure reds are more susceptible to tumours and to avoid blacks and whites. So I am a bit confused here because there are not much options left. I don’t know how accurate my information is but I read that the fancy colours usually have bad genes and the “ugly” ones are usually healthier. I’d appreciate any advice here to help me choose. Thank you

Personally I would look into different species of wild betta. Wild B. splendens can have a variety of colours and are often quite beautiful.

Usually plakat bettas are already super hardy so I would not worry

Never heard to avoid reds, whites or blacks before. The only ones I'd really want to avoid are the "dragon scale" fish, they have a very thick pigment layer in their scales that can cover their eyes and makes them more likely to develop skin tumors. You can tell the ones that have the thick pigment layer pretty easily, their fins are generally one color (red, yellow, black) and their body and scales will be vibrant iridescent white. All domestic bettas can get tumors though. It's not necessarily the color that indicates bad breeding, it's just the fact that most pet store bettas are mass produced on fish farms then shipped across the ocean. They are bred for quantity, not quality, and the shipping stress makes them more susceptible to getting sick.

If you are looking for a more natural colored betta then the ones that are brownish red with blue iridescence would be the closest to wild coloration. In terms of health, it's luck of the draw. Obviously don't get one that is clearly already ill. Pick a color you like and hope for the best. Plakats are definitely a better choice over long fins in terms of general health IMO.

I got this information from this article: eelpatrickharris.tumblr.com/post/182545139495

Honestly I didn’t read that red bettas are more likely to develop tumours anywhere other than this article, so I think I should just take it with a grain of salt.
I will also buy the fish from a local online store, they have a small pick up store with limited stock, so I hope they will have better quality fish than big chain stores.
I don’t know if I it’s okay to post links, If not I’ll remove it

Bettas come in multiple colors in nature. But they are more subdued colors. But I assume you mean just a betta splendens? The wild plakat coloration varies between, brownish, brown-reddish and brown-greenish. And all the nuances in between. So, take your pick.

I think I will go with red, it’s easy to find and seems to have a relation with its natural colours
