What are the benefits of Spray Bars

Hi,

Just wanted to get people's opinions on spray bars?

I have a fluval 206 canister filter and am currently just using the normal end that comes with it. Never even knew spray bars existed until I saw a post on here but have looked and they are available to buy and aren't expensive.

Was just wondering what the benefits were and what people's thoughts on them are?

I like them because they seem to disperse the water well, which is better for water circulation in the tank.

Agreed. I like them because I can point different sections of the spray bar in different directions to circulate the tank well. But really it's just what you prefer. The default ends are good for a higher centralized flow that can be focused in a certain section of the tank and a lot of aquarium keepers prefer that.

I like them because they can provide lots of surface agitation without too much flow.

I'm going to come from the other side lol, not a fan of them unless its on a secondary filter as I use my fluval outlet to push water around the tank, I don't see the point in having one unless you want no movement in your tank.

Spray bars still create movement in the tank.

Not adequate movement for a good well circulated tank IMO, outlet pressure of a decent filter such as a fluval canister is wasted if you use a spray bar, hence why I personally think they don't come with one. As for sun sun I used a spray bar when I had that canister as it trickled out anyway but I supported it with an internal filter for flow. Personal opinion and findings but each to there own, I just think my crystal clear water is partly down utilising the outlet pressure of my 306 in the 200 litre tank I have.

Hmm, interesting. I have crystal clear water (other than the tannins!) and I use a spray bar on my Eheim, which still has enough power to make my plants in the tank wave in the flow and pushes all the waste to the intake on the opposite side of the tank. And the Eheim came with a spray bar.

That's good to know then, id like to try a ehiem canister but they aren't really that popular in the uk so I never found one on the buy and sell places I use, I always aI'm to get fluval, if the spray bar works for you then that's good but I just feel they aren't all that great. I think its a very debatable thing lol.

It's good to hear both sides. Has made me think now lol. Think you're the first person I've heard from on here that's from the UK too lol. I have no issues with my filter at the moment I was just intrigued by them as I didn't know they existed to buy I've only Seen diy ones.

I get a lot of stuff off the app geek or wish, simple things like air stones, thermometers, not mechanical stuff, I got an outlet to fit my 306 too.
