What are some easy fish to breed?

Get rams man ! Nothing will compare IMO ..
You breed and raise rams and everything else falls in line !
Discus are easier once you get the parents straight but will need bigger tanks every month .
Rams need to work through their issues in the beginning like disc but they require much smaller sets..
Live food isa must for raising the fry ..If you can do them I say go rams man !
The ram bandit strikes again

It would seem that you have quite a bit of experience with the rams. I'm looking for the things I'm missing to get a setup started but I'm pretty confident I'll be going with the rams. Electric Blue all the way

Get them a 10 gallon tank keep it over 82f.
Small pot on side ,small tray from bottom of pot for the eggs .
Piece of nice driftwood and some plants that need no substrate like Anubias ,Bolbitus or java ferns and mosses .
I'll just bet you have soft water so I will just envy you ,your location and stock you can get .
ask away I would love to see you raise rams !

My water is so soft I have to add crushed coral or rocks to my Freshwater tank so the shrimp have the minerals they need to molt.

A 10 gallon tank is large enough perm. home for a pair of rams ? Hum.... I wonder - is sponge filter ample for long term filtration. I have a store purchased pair (I swore off rams but got them on a whI'm because the store had them for 2 weeks and no one was buying them) in a 29 but that tank has other critters - I wonder if I should put them in a dedicated home. They seem well adjusted and they are so tiny.

And what about the fry. When should they be separated? Or will the parents raise them all the way?

You hope the parents raise them . If the fry are eating then the parents can go .
You will move the parents not the fry .
The adults will take the switch in stride , and be much easier to catch and move ..
I breed and raise fry even in 5 gallon tanks .
10g is fine for rams if it is just one pair and they get on fine ..
Each pair is different .

I used to try breeding my electric blue rams. I wouldn't say they are easy, in fact the opposite for me, but it was a rewarding experience to raise those cute little fish. Good luck! You will do better than me with coralbandit's help

What do you feed your baby rams?

What do you feed your baby rams?
They start day one with live fresh hatched Baby Brine Shrimp [BBS].
At 1 week I start adding Golden pearls which is like fish food dust ..
They grow slow the BBS can go on for a month easy and you can slowly move the size food up but it is still very small compared to store foods . I use KensFish grow crumbles sizes 00-3 [4 sizes] .Same deal with the golden pearls [100 micron right up to 800 micron ].
All those foods are well under 1mm size most less then .5mm..

I've bred angels before, they can be a lot of fun, but I'd suggest buying an experienced breeding pair. Too much hanging on chance imo when buying a group and hoping two will pair up.
I've also bred daffodil cichlids and they're super fun too, if you have the room for them. They're really diligent parents.
What size tank do you have?

Breeding rams sounds like a blast. They are gorgeous fish. I didn’t know you could have just a pair of them in a small tank.... maybe that’s my next fish to get.

I'm hopeful my nannacara will maybe breed without killing each other. The bossy male is looking but the female isn't that interested and she spends time with the non-dom. males which makes the bossy male furious.

Right now I have a 12G and a 5G empty and a 20-ish needing reassembly. But I was thinking of expanding way before. I'm thinking on expanding in number instead of size. So maybe I'll get a couple 10s since I'm leaning towards the rams.

Sounds fun, keep us updated if you decide to go for the rams. Would love a thread showing the breeding and growth of the fry!

Went to the LFS today in hopes of getting my hands on a pair of Electric Blu Rams. There was a pair, very good condition. However there were other rams in the tank with very clear signs of ick. I'll be waiting to start this the right way

Smart move, better safe than sorry. Unfortunately the nearest LFS to me doesn’t have the healthiest fish either

With the effort required waiting to start proper should be a must for all.
That exercise in restraint is the clear difference between trying to breed proper and the all to familiar accidental breeder ..
Well played ..There certainly are good fish near you if I know anything about rams ..
Pick the right pair ..

Usually my LFS has amazing control with the animals health. They have been in business for nearly 40 years and the owner takes very good care of everything. I'm guessing maybe a fish died or a heater malfunctioned in the last couple days. Everything else was fine, just the rams and some other dwarf ciclids looked sick.

If my tiny golds live for 2 weeks does this mean they will live forever ?
