What amphibian to get for a beginner?

Okay! My friend is POSSIBLY buying a frog this weekend... maybe a lizard... or maybe a turtle....only, I don't think he knows anything about any of them so I've offered to help.

What do I need to know about frog keeping?? turtle keeping? lizard keeping?
What's a good beginner frog/turtle/lizard? Can he get multiples?
It has to live in a 10 gallon tank.. (we're at school)...

The only place I would think to buy them would be Petco or PetSmart? Any other suggestions?


I'll take ANY suggestions.... any help. We're going out on Saturday to do some shopping so any info asap would be awesome....

 

Best bet would be:

Whites Tree Frog or some type of newt or salamander.

I would avoid turtles, as they are a LOONNNNGGG term commitment and need lots of research and do NOT need to be housed in a 10g.

Just about every lizard I can think of does not need to be housed in a 10g, and needs specialized lighting and other expenses.

He could do 2 or 3 of the whites tree frogs, newts, or salamanders as long as he kept up with the cleaning and such in the tanks.

I agree, go with the amphibians.

TURTLES do NOT belong in a ten gallon tank.

Nor do just about any lizard.

 

I love newts, so that's my suggestion. ;D I've had my newt Oscar for over 8 years. He is a total sweetie...very cute and observant.

It is good to have this amphibians:
White's tree frog
Tiger Salamander
Fire-bellied FROG
BUT NOT turtles and lizards because they're reptiles.
