Hello everyone! I just wanted to share a picture of the rocks I found while hiking today. Most of it's granite, but the white ones are milky white quartz. Does anyone else like to hunt for rocks? aquarium or not!

Cool! I don’t hunt for them for the aquarium because even if I know this type of Rock is 100% safe I still get way to paranoid to put it in lol

Nice haul today. I have started paying attention to the rocks as I walk looking for one for my new tank. How do you carry them back?

Me too at first, but the insane prices at the pet store have inspired change haha! I've been planning to rescape my aquarums for awhile now and have been collecting driftwood and rocks from my backyard and the creek across the street! They're so pretty and absolutely free!!

It's quite the workout, especially since I live in the mountains! I usually just bring a backpack and pick up rocks along the way! Today I ended up hiking half a mile with 25 pounds of rock on my back..
Maybe I should find an easier way haha

Where do you think the pet stores get them from?

Nice! I love to go rock hunting, but usually end up with waaay more than I need for an aquarium! They usually end being borders on my gardens!

I know but I don’t trust myself I’d rather blame the store

I don't know.. the only pet store In my area is a petco, so they probably have a steady source from somewhere, but I have seen some rocks that are really common around here.

I do the same thing, and with driftwood. I am constantly looking in people's landscapes, and being like "That rock would look awesome in my tank" and then remembering that I can't take them. But yeah I constantly look for rocks/driftwood while I am walking.

I buy rocks from my local rockyard. They have a huge clearly labeled selection of rock, costing between 20 - 25 cents a pound. Much cheaper than the fish store.

Great job !!!!

White ones look to be calcite and could alter harness / Ph.

That's awesome, great haul! I'm constantly foraging for hardscape too, except most of my local rocks are somewhat rounded cause there's so much water, I'm on an island but I find so much good driftwood!

I've heard rumors from other fish keepers that there's a place nearby I could get mopani wood, I'm not sure how accurate that is though...

Kool rocks. I am thinking of going rock hunting myself. Store rocks are too expensive.

We take a lot of road trips. I usually try to bring home at least one rock from wherever we go.
