Well water and water conditioners

I was told by my LFS not to put any "water cleaners" in my aquarium since it is well water. They said all of their freshwater aquariums are filled with well water and they have no problems at all. I have had my 22 Gallon aquarium up and running for close to a year now and have been using the well water with no "cleaners" at all. Do you guys think I need to put anything in the water? all of my fish are healthy
opinions please!

my view, if it ain't broke, don't fix it... if all you fish see healthy and happy, why spend the extra money...

I have well water also and I don't put anything in the water before using it.

Just make sure there are no heavy metals in the water.

Good morning,

I also have well water and I use Nova Aqua + and Amquel +. I do not know what heavy metals, if any, are in my water so to be on the safe side, I use the above water conditioners. I've always used them and probably always will.

May switch to Prime one of these days

I was about to add, that unless you know a lot about the water I think that some can be a good thing. Now then, that aside, I have a well also and I do not use anything on a regular basis. I do have a large bottle of prime left over from when I had city water so once and a while I will walk around a put a capful into the tanks just to use it. I do have test results for my well and everything appears to be well in line.

I would look into a test on your well water and see what there is for it. I know they are not "cheap" but it is nice to know what you are drinking and what you are having the fish live in.

Hello,

My well smells like Sulfur, so I filter it through a Britta for drinking. Chef says he doesn't smell it but I think his sniffer is broken. LOL It's a deep well at 400'.

I use Prime because my well water has a high level of metal. It's undrinkable and smells. (Prime detoxifies heavy metals)

Some water conditioners such as Prime, NovAqua and Stress Coat have ingredients that are supposed to be good for the fishes slime coat. So assuming your well water has no chlorine, chloramine, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates or heavy metals, that would really be the only reason to use one of those water conditioners.
