Well, Vacation Time.

So here we go...off to vacation in a few days for Thanksgiving. My family is going to Hong Kong (HK) to visit family and my wife's family, also bringing our 3 year old daughter and 1.75 year old son...I'm dreading the flight since it's 2 hours to San Fran (go 49ers!) from Portland (Go Blazers!) and 15.5 hours to HK...this is the kids first time on a flight...and this is going to really suck.

So I'll be gone for three weeks...and this is actually the first time I'll be gone from the tank for this long. I did a water change today and will tell my brother in law to feed only twice a week so that way it will prevent any ammonia spikes or whatever. So I'm sure this will be good. Feed just enough so they all eat.

He's fed fish before when he had the tank so he knows what he's doing. But I'm not going to tell him to do a water change while I'm out, only to watch to make sure they are ok.

I obviously will tell him to top off the water if the level gets low and if there's a dead fish (hopefully not) that he's responsible for replacement...HAHA, just kidding, but at least take it out. Basically just look for anything wrong, if the fish are happy and swimming no need to do anything but feed.

Not only I have to watch the kids while half a world away with a country that has 17,500+ people per square mile but I have to hope that the tank is good...yeah that's seems strange doesn't it?

I'm hoping my trek there will lead me to the fish market to take a gander at it. Perhaps I'll see glowing discus, talking to you Discusluv, or some other funky fish or up and coming hybrid trendy fish...like a flowerhorn-discus-tetra fish. I'm also going to try to see like tank ideas and aqua scaping ideas.

Of course this is also squeezing time at Disneyland HK, family, kids, golfing and eating...

Anyways I'll be on here and there while I'm out and about...just odd hours though.

I don't envy the flight, but I do envy that you are going to such a wonderful place!

I flew to Germany, that’s only 9 hours from where I live.
Not jealous one bit about the flight, either.

Have a great time!

I’m just hoping the kids wear themselves out by the 2nd flight that it will be smooth sailing. If not...I could use drugs to knock myself out.

Ah, I remember those days of international flights with a toddler. Not fun, though mine did sleep a fair amount (sprawled across my husband and me). After a flight to Honolulu where the lines for the toilet was so long that my daughter became un-potty trained, I decided to take a small travel training potty with us when we went to Budapest. We went through multiple international airports with me carrying that thing in a shopping bag and also a train across 3 countries. The Frankfurt airport security was perplexed--3 guys staring at this thing until the one woman with them said, "Das ist ein Kinderklo." Yeah, nothing like having toddlers to lose all ability to feel embarrassment

I should try to document the experience traveling with toddlers.

I miss traveling. I used to go overseas alone (or with siblings) when I was barely a teen. I think we were well behaved for our age. But 3 and 1 yr olds is different. Probably can't do that anymore, lol. If I don't have ambiens, I triple the dose on TylenolPMs. Not that I would recommend it.

I'm hoping with technologies, coloring books and other stuff might help pass the time. The problem I hate with International traveling, especially these flights is when you watch a movie and it's like 2.5 hours you realize after the movie that there is another 13 hours to go.

What makes it worse is that you can check the progress of the flight. There's a little airplane and where you are currently at. After the movie it moves like 2 inches...that's when you start to worry whether you have enough movies to watch.

Benadryl (children's). people say it's "medicating my children!!!!!" but it's also a very KIND thing to do for the kiddos as they aren't able to pop their ears themselves and being in a plane that long is SO terribly boring for a kiddo. Have fun and think of all the fun organic things your tanks will grow! It's gonna be awesome.

You will be fine, just remember they can smell your fear.

Just give them something to suck on during takeoff and that will take care of the change in pressure. Take they're favourite toys and games and play with them to keep them occupied.

I flew 15 hrs with my daughter when she was 3months last yr without a problem, I was surprised she absolutely loved the flight.

I'm taking her back home again next july and hopefully she still loves it.

Have fun in hk, I haven't been for yrs now. Went a few times before but I prefer mainland china more.

Yeah we have a supply of lolly pops and will give the 1 year old dictator a bottle of milk on take off and landing so that way he's sucking on something. I do plan on going to China as I have family there but likely to golf and hit Shenzhen, maybe get some stuff...like fake grade A Louis Vutton stuff...

Lucky you didnt come last year as golf was only just legalized by xI dada mid 2016.

I played a round a couple of yrs ago with some chinese business friends and they all had to play in long sleeve shirts in the middle of summer so they didnt get what they called "a golf tan". The party still frowns on it even though they legalized it so if you see people playing in long sleeves you know why.

I've played golf quite a few times over the past 10+ years. When I first started I played under stadium lights, that was weird...golfing at night.

My vacation schedule hasn’t allowed me to visit the fish shops yet. Still have a week though. Here are some aquariums that I’ve been too.

This is from Ocean Park. They have a small area to show trash in the ocean. I think I’ll design my next tank with cans of coke.
