Hello there and welcome to A Simple Guide to Betta Fish where you and your betta will learn to understand and work with each-other and know each-other as well. I myself have been caring for bettas for six to seven years now and have learned a quaint little lot about them, both scientifically and in handling/cooperative study. My first betta was named rainbow and lived for a good two and a half years and I will continue to care for bettas like I did him and try to care for them even better...

The Superstition of Betta Fish- Part One
Betta Fish are known for being aggressive and mean and cruel, but actually these fish are kind and have individual personalities and should be recognized as complex, intelligent animals capable of much more than we believe. Due to their aggressiveness towards other males, it is stereotyped that they're that way towards all other fish but really, these fish are just mean towards the fish similar to the males they are used to fighting. Certain fish are aggressive but this is an exception with all fish and should be understood as one. If you wish to house a Betta with other fish, do your research first and ask others if your fish is a good match for your betta. Also, if your betta is aggressive, it might just need a larger tank to itself and some time to unwind and calm down or it might not be sociable at all. It all depends on the fish and it's temperament and this should be recognized.
