Weird red sore on bettas mouth

my betta fish, flint, developed something on his mouth that almost looks like it’s deteriorating the area. he is acting normal (eating fine, swimming, etc) however the sore is troubling.

the ammonia reading is 0 but just in case i changed around 25-35% of the water today (tuesday) even though i usually do it thursday. i plan to change the water thursday again for the sake of my schedule.

 

He could have got injured from digging in the gravel for food or somthing, I think the only thing you can do is keep the water clean and possibly add stress coat with aloe. I dont see any signs of disease that could be treated.

 

I agree with noroomforshoe....maybe do some small frequent water changes every other day for a week or so to make sure the water is pristine. You could also add a little aquarium salt to the tank if you don't have any invertebrates or other tank mates that don't do well with aquarium salt. And, as always, bettas do very well with tannins, so adding Indian almond leaves is always a good thing. The leaves will tint the water brown (as tannins are released), but the tannins do provide some slight antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Definitely add tannins. Alder cones are my favorite. Low lighting, tannins, and clean water fix most problems with bettas, I've learned.

 

thank you all!! i’ll definitely add indian almond leaves, as those are what i have on hand, and dose stress coat + frequent water changes

i’ve also learned that aquarium salt doesn’t do too well with some of my plants so i’ll probably have to keep away from that
