Weird question ... is Seachem Prime supposed to stink?

Whimsy

The last couple times I've pulled my bottle of Prime out to dose the tank after a water change, I've noticed that it really, really stinks. Like "don't want to get my face anywhere near it" stinks. The smell is like a stagnant pond ... kinda "rotting things in water". I don't remember it smelling when I first got it a couple months ago... Did I just not notice before or have the chemicals gone off?

You must have been missing it. Prime has sulfates, giving it a sulfer stench

Yes it does stink, it says on the bottle that it will smell like sulfur, as you get through the bottle I have noticed the smell gets stronger. I assume that's because the lesser liquid is in the bottle the more room for sulfur smelling gasses to be present and when you open it they escape.

But in short yes, the smell is normal.

Ive found keeping mine in the fridge has lessened the smell considerably.
Food for thought

There was a member on here who accidentally spilled a whole bottle on her carpet! Worst smell ever is the anti-fungal medication that vets put on animals' wounds; touch the animal and you'll get whiffs from your hands all day. Honestly, pets, why do we do it?!
