Weird mucus in my tank

Hello. I recently set up a little 5 gallon Tank with a zen theme. It currently doesn't have any fish in it. I read up on putting bamboo In aquariums and got to it. I ended up spraying the dried bamboo with clear acrylic paint. I soaked it for a day like I normally do with new ornaments then stuck them in. After the first day in the tank they started to form white clouds of slimy stuff on then. It's like a furry stuff. Does anyone know how to get rid of it or prevent it? And what even is the gross stuff? I'm worried that it'll damage the water so I'll hold of putting any fish in. Please help!

Hello,

I'm not sure what that is, but I have had these two when I started my second tank.

If they are white slimes, they might be algae or something from bacterial growth eating organics that are left in the wood (some say they are beneficial in right amount), you can just brush them using a toothbrush and siphon them right away and do water change periodically until they disappear.

If they are transparent slimes, they might be a cluster of snail eggs.

Better not to put fish or other plants at the moment.

Good luck.

They might appear again, so keep cleaning it periodically.

I love the theme of your tank, it looks so oriental.

Thanks. Thinking of getting a shark and some tetras

I highly doubt a shark would be suitable in that tank size. Tetras wouldn't work either. That would make a nice home for a betta with some shrimp and/or snails though!

I've had tetras in a tank this size before and they were happy.

What kind of tetras?

Neons. Had about 6

They aren't appropriate for a 5 gallon either. They're much too active and need a larger tank.

Small but big personalities. Not many fish can go in a 5g.
