Weird flesh under bettas gills + fin rot

Hey so ive had my betta for about a year and a half. Im not sure how old he is but he’s always super active and ready to eat. He never fights with his small tank mates either. A few weeks ago he got frayed fins because of an issue with the tank. No other tank mates were effected other than him. He got what I assume is fin rot but it has stopped getting worse. It doesn’t grow back tho. He doesnt seem to be hurting tho. But I wone up this morning to see this strange piece of flesh under his mouth between his gills. Is it something of concern or am I overreacting?
These are really the best pics I can get. Hes always pretty jumpy.

I can't tell much from the pic. If the bump just suddenly appeared, the problem might be a virus.
A viral infection can damage fins as well.
There's really nothing that can be done other than provide good nutrition & a clean, healthy environment.

Yea idk its not a bump but like a piece of his gill like when he flares if u get me. His beard I guess? But he doesnt seem to be lethargic, stressed, unwilling to eat, or unhappy. So ill just keep things clean and feed him well like you said. Ty

If it is dark, it probably is his beard. I have seen them stick out at times on some of my bettas in the past when not flaring. Never seemed to bother them that i noticed.
