We have Convict Cichlid eggs!

I was wondering why my convict chichlids were acting weird... two of the 4 caves have been taken over by a pair each.

the pairs have been digging out the sand substrate underneath the arches for the past week and I was wondering why.

today while watching the largest puff sand out onto a dune I noticed bubbles underneath the rock that is the roof for his cave.. but they looked odd for bubbles.. they are eggs... wooo...

I don't know where my albino laid her eggs but I am guessing inside the hollow plastic of the plastic cave as she and her mate have been guarding it with vigilance.

Re: We have eggs!

its weird.. the mother cichlid took the eggs and moved them to another spot. She dug out the sand to get to the lowest rock in the base and shoved them under that..

no need for MTS in this tank.. the fish keep the sand moving

Congrats on the eggs! Cichlids tend to move their eggs around a bit

Convict are very good parents and are fun to watch...be careful of the pairs they may fight til death. I had a male once who had two females with eggs at the same time...now that was interesting.

I think I'm getting to that point. I have 4 convicts, 2 females, a small male, and a larger male. Well, the smaller female and larger male made babies. Now, the larger female seems about ready with the same male.

We'll see.

Congrats on the wigglers. Can't wait to see pics.

It's very fun to watch convicts. They are so feisty. My friend has way too many in her tank but they aren't killing each other yet...lots are breeding too.
