I've started with many options of which fish I should get next year. I have come to 2 last choices: white cloud mountain minnows and skirt tetras. Help me choose! (EDIT: I'd prefer if you vote the hardier one!)

Depends! How big is the tank and are you going tropical (then I'd pick skirt tetras) or cool/coldwater (then I'd go for the WCMM)?

I read that both of them's minimum tank size is FIVE gallons, though.

Imo, I wouldn't put either in a 10g; if you'd like, you can try some of these options
Stocking List for 10 Gallons

I read that both of them's minimum tank size is FIVE gallons, though.
Where did you read that from? Be wary that some sites say that in order to sell fish; in reality, a minimum would be a 20 gallon long because of how active they are and their size (especially for skirt tetras) but there are tons of other options that would work nicely instead ^^

Those are both active schoolers so I'd do them in a 20 long, minimum. Skirts are pretty big too.

KinsKicks that list is HUGE! I literally thought no more than about a dozen types of fish could fit!

Haha, you'd be surprised about the fish that are available to the hobby! Do keep in mind that some are common and some are a bit rarer; of course, the rarer you go, they tend to be harder to keep (and more expensive haha)

Do you think I should get them from PetSmart? Here's a description of the tanks I see in my PetSmart:
If I had to guess, on a 1-10 scale, the tanks are a 4 for how much they're overstocked.
The fish are swimming and seem happy.
There are live plants, substrate, aeration (I think), filtered and heated.
Does this sound reliable?

I personally wouldnt get them from petsmart because theyre not the healthiest.

Depending on where you live it's can be the complete opposite

Yup really. It's surprising what different stores do. Even if they are the same retailer.

Our LFS is way less reliable then the PetSmart.

We have no LFS in our area, only Petsmart and Petco. It's nice when you do have options. Those killies are beautiful.

I would never put a skirt tetra in a 10, as it gets too big. They can be nasty too, and close quarters accentuates that side of their character.

I would put white clouds in, any time, if it is a single species set up with lots of plants. You could put a trio in, and you'd have a dozen in a few months. The babies are pretty.
I don't find them to be serious shoalers. They are social, but they go their own ways. In a large tank or a community, I would consider a small shoal, as they look good.
In a small tank like a ten, they can thrive in smaller numbers. It's just that their numbers won't stay small, as they do breed easily.

Just saw that you have a 10 gallon. White skirt tetras get bigger than other tetras plus they need to be in groups of 6 +. You can't put much in there. Maybe 6-10 ember tetras. Or two betas separated by a divider. Or you can just have one. Your choice

I wouldnt do two males in a divided because they still know theyre there by hormones they release into the water (I think its something like that)

Two females then divided.

I'm not getting bettas, I already have one, and after 3 years of experience with them, I'm kind of looking into other fish (Not saying they're not pretty and awesome!) won't get any bettas again until my current one dies.
