Water Wisteria Growth Questions

Good morning. Does anyone know if my water wisteria will grow new leaves lower on the stem, or am I better off to snip that off and re root farther up the stem? If so, I may just let the float for now while they grow roots? They already had some roots when they came in the mail so I just planted them but now I am wondering if I should have done things differently.

Here they are... 2 stems of it are already floating in a pitcher of tank water without roots. Also do they grow roots better while floating or should I shove them into the substrate to grow roots?

I would cut the stem off a couple of inches from the bottom leaves and re-plant them in the substrate up to the bottom leaves. The plant should root fairly quickly and grow from the top. I do this all the time with bacopa and have had no issues doing it this way. Good luck!

Wisteria will grow roots anywhere. Usually when you see aerial roots, it isn't getting enough nutrients for the whole plant and it's time for a trim. You can cut that plant like 3 times and all the little pieces should be fine. You can also bury just the stem and it will grow stems out of the branches.

You do seem to have a nutrient deficiency. Are you using fertilizers?

Yes, I do have flourish that I have been adding twice a week. They have only been planted around 2 weeks. Do you think maybe they are just still adjusting? I have not added any macros (or carbon/co2, and have stock LEDs so I don't want to over fertilize the low tech tank, right?)

Yeah I think I am going to take them out and snip them and replant. I should get root tabs first though. Would root tabs take care of the deficiency or do you think I need to add macro nutrients? I had hoped in the low tech tank, the fish would take care of most of that..I also have fairly hard water...

Mine do the same thing, I notice it more in my taller tanks than the shallow ones. Cut replant and it will grow.

Dont get root tabs. They won't feed from the substrate well. They may be adjusting still, but my comment was because of the crooked stems. They would do much better with some macros. Honestly, for you only having them 2 weeks they may just be bent from the supplier for some reason. The leaves shedding is most likely from them not getting enough light. Mine always start with rounder leaves in the tank and then they turn jagged after a little bit. It really is a great beginner plant.

Thanks so much. I must need to change settings or something. I get notification for everything else, but apparently not when someone replies to my own posts lol.

On my phone there is a pretty long delay before I get the notification. It's faster for me to refresh the following tab.
