Water temperature

Transfering fish from one tank to another. I did a large water change to the other tank, and the temperatures are 3 degrees off. Although i know i need to aclimate them, how close does the temperature need to be before i can add them?

The old-school rule I used to hear was that it was OK to subject most tropical fish to a 2 degree drop in temperature or a 3 degree increase. That's in Fahrenheit degrees.

Obviously the closer the match, the better, but when it rains or some other weather event happens, rivers and ponds change temperature.

The main thing is the suddenness of the temperature change. The fish need some time to adjust, so a sudden change is harder on the fish than a gradual change.
