Hello all,

I had an opportunity to obtain a 125 gallon tank with 12 African cichlids and 2 plecos. The tank was 1-1/2 hours away so needless to say it was totally empty when moved today. All the fish survived the journey and are now in the set up tank. I was able to transport about about 22 gallons of the tank’s water, all of the substrate was taken out and transported in a bucket and I kept the 4 cartridges from the 2 HOB filters wet and reused them. There is about an inch of sand for substrate. Tank was up for about an hour and I tested water.

Ammonia .25
Nitrite. 0
Nitrate 40+
PH 7.8-8. This is the norm for my other tanks and tap water

I am no expert but was a little surprised about the results since most of the water was new. Is it possible I kept too much water? Or maybe I tested too soon. I was going to change cartridges on one of the filters and do a water change tomorrow but wanted to get some advice first.

Thanks
