Water Is Splashing Loudly Inside My Aquaclear Filter

Hello! I have an aquaclear 50 filter in my 29 gallon. The waterfall in quiet and the filters itself is quiet but the water splashes super loud as it goes through the media. I doesn’t keep me from sleeping (it’s in my bedroom) but it is pretty annoying during the day. Does anyone know how I might fix this splashing problem? Thanks

That's an unusual problem. Might try adding more ceramic media and stack it on top of the sponge. The added weight might compact things enough to muffle the annoying sound.
If you are still using the charcoal insert, it would be a good idea to discard it. Use the extra space for additional filter media.

This is a new one on me. Can't say I have ever heard of water splashing inside a HOB filter. Maybe you need to rearrange the media or add more to keep what's in there from moving around.

I don't really understand what you mean to be honest!

Could you maybe upload a video?

I don’t think I can upload a video on this device, but I will send pictures. It splashes a lot in the black empty area (I took I picture of this). The filter is pretty deep. Could I add sponges to that area?

Hi,

That's not an AquaClear! I think it's an aqueon? Do you know the brand? Should be on the cover.

Maybe stuff a sponge or filter floss where there is open water in the filter?

This looks like an Aqueon filter to me. I have the same problem with this size, the smaller one for the 20 gal is fine. I replaced the blue thing with a bag of bio media (Eheim), it is quiet now.

I also removed the original filter media and put an Aquaclear foam filter in the blue holder. That might not do anything for the noise but the foam lasts a loooooong time and you can wash it out.

Oops sorry I meant it is an aqueon silentstream. This is very helpful! Thanks I will definitely try this. Do you believe I could get this supplies at my local petsmart?
