water dragons and cichlids

I have been thinking about buying a 55 gallon aquarium and putting cichlids in it and building a cage around it with a floor above the water and a part the water dragons can get down to it. what are your thoughts on this project. what type of cichlids should I put in there, they would have to be decent size so the water dragons wouldn't eat them but yet not to big that they would eat the water dragons. what are your suggestions on this. thx.

So how are you going to keep a 3ft dragon over a 55 gallon tank? Maybe a 200 gallon tank would work.

I don't have enough money for a 200 gallon. I was going to extend the cage part lager and have wood in the front and have a hole in front of the part with the tank. I will get larger more aggressive fish and hope for the best. I don't think that water dragons would eat jack dempseys

I used to have a young Water Dragon until I was forced to give him up when I went to college. He died of malnutrition.

Here's a link for sizes and age-

https://www.triciaswaterdragon.com/age.htm

Maybe that will help you with the sizing of the tank?

I just can't picture a 3ft dragon swimming in a 55 gallon tank. Hmm?

there would mostly be land. I would make plywood go over the water and only have a small section open to the water. anyways what would be the best fish to go in this tank?
