I have a ten gallon tank and about 14+ fry it has gravel , (I wish I had thought Ahead and not had it in there ) and some plastic plants .... But I need to know how do I keep this tank clean and healthy , they can't have a filter because it would suck them up , so what do I do ? How do I do water changes .

Cover the filter intake with a sponge, and you can easily clean the tank using a airline tubing as a tiny siphon.

You can also use a sponge filter. Does that mean your fry tank isn't cycled? That could lead to a lot of fry deaths. As for how to clean the tank you could put some fine mesh around the opening of the syphon with a rubber band.

It is cycled I had (had ) I filter and a fish or two in it before , but then moved them to another tank , and put the guppy fry in

I am kinda new to fish other than betta ..... How do I get a sponge filter ?

How long has it been since you had that filter in it? If it's been too long you probably are not longer cycled.

Is it possible for me to take the gravel out without hurting the fry?

About 2-3 days

If someone could explain how I should fix this step by step that would be greatly appreciated

I'm not sure a cycle could hold that long without the bacteria on the filter. Have you been able to test the water parameters?

To help fix the issue I would:

1) Get a sponge filter and heater

2) Check the parameters of the water

**If still cycled**
If it's still cycled you should have 0 ammonia, and nitrites with a little bit of nitrates. Do water changes at least once a week, more if parameters get higher before end of week. Use fine mesh on siphon.

**If Not Cycled**

3) If it's not cycled I would use prime to detoxify the ammonia/nitrite up to 1ppm. I would also use stability bacteria supplement to speed up the cycle. Both these things will make it easier on the fry. You may still lose some fry. Follow directions on stability bottle. You could also take cycled filter media from your other filter and use it to instant cycle.

4) Keep checking water parameters daily as you cycle, keeping ammonia and nitrite low as it cycles by doing water changes.

5) You know you are cycled when it gets to 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and 20 or less (not 0) nitrates.

6) When cycled do water changes at least once a week, more if parameters get higher before end of week. Use fine mesh on siphon.

Don't remove the gravel that holds a little bit of BB..u should just do a small water change 10% or so and dose with prime then test the water later or tomorrow

So I need to buy a sponge filter right ????and check my water

Feed your fry 4-6 times a day tiny amounts of course get your filter and heater goin and keep your water nice and clean and conditioned and they will grow pretty quickly...best of luck with them

HarukI first bites is a good food..also egg yolk mixed with tank water ..be sure to use like a toothpick to feed them it will cloud up your tank quickly
