Am I supposed to be doing weekly water changes during a fishless cycle?

I did but I did water tests first to see if I had any spikes.

Well I have seachem ammonia alert and regular ammonia tests so I guess that will be good enough

Good morning,

As long as your Ammonia levels stays below 4.0 while cycling, there is no need for water changes during a fishless cycle.

If the Ammonia levels get too high, the beneficial bacteria may not be able to overcome the level to cycle the aquarium.

I use the SeaChem Ammonia Alerts too as a back up to my API (liquid) Master Test Kit.

Get the apI master kit. Seachem ammonia alert isn't enough.

No, the Seachem Alert is not enough, but it gives you an emergency indicator. I use it too. But, I test my water regularily as well. I don't know if it is just me, but the Ph indicator did not work for me. I tested totally differant than the indicator. I have also noticed that the Seachem shows a little lower reading than the kit.
