Water change experience

I was changing the water in one of my 55 gallon tanks. Everything was going well as usually. I started filling water back up with my water changer, added my Safe. I always have a few minuets to kill before I need to turn off the water. So I walk away from the fishroom and come sit down at the computer to cruise some fishlore. I can see the tank from the computer so I can keep an eye on it.

Well, I zoned out on fishlore. All of a sudden I hear this funny sound. Hmm, my filter is running rather loudly isn't it? Then it hits me! AHHHH WATER FLOODING THE FISHROOM! Man did I move fast to turn the water off!

I'm in the process of soaking the water up now I'm glad it's vinyl flooring in there.

I honestly can't tell you how many times I've done this!!!

I'll be looking at one tank while another is filling and bam! Water everywhere!

I always scrabble to turn off the water first, then kill the power because the water runs right to the huge power strip.

Luckily, all of my power strips are up on my rack. I'm really glad I tied them up there now!

I do that when I'm draining a tank into this 2.5 gallon watering can I have l I get so used to having the 5 gallon bucket that anything else throws me so off!

Hope the fishies were ok! Good thing you don't have carpet like I do LOL

LOL - I did that emptying out a tank. I was concentrating so much on vacuuming up all the little bits and pieces that I overflowed the jug I was using. Fortunately it was only a 5 gallon tank - but I was using a 1 gallon jug.

Hah don't have this problems using buckets Though I don't think I have large enough tanks to warrant a python anyway.

I've definitely almost overfilled the bucket when removing water, though! Then my boyfriend has to carry an almost-overflowing five gallon bucket all the way to the bathroom ;D

Oh man! Good thing you caught it in time!!!!!!
I can't say this has happened to me yet but I can tell you, NEVER fill up a bathtub for your kid, get distracted and walk away.... Just don't!!! LOL ( luckily it happened in my old house that was a rental ) :-[

It actually happened to me yesterday and I have carpet. I use the siphon and usually when the bucket is done, I insert the siphon back into the tank so I don't have restart the suction....I went to empty the bucket and one end of the siphon slipped out of the tank and water splashed all over my carpet.

Aww man that sucks. At least I'm not alone in this. Oh the hazards of fish keeping.

I always close the Hood on my siphon to keep it from falling out of the tank when I do that LOL

I take the glass top off my tank when I do WC...it is a lot easier for me to maneuver my siphon around the tank. It saved me a couple of buckets to do that day though.

Add me to the list multiple times. Both the overflow and the syphon falling out. I swear one day the fish will float out too.

I have a kind of different experience

About a week ago I WA doing a water change and went to get the prime so I sat the bucket by the tank and wasn't thinking about it and my 9 mths old girl decided to crawl u and play in the bucket luckily I caught her before it all poured out on the floor

Actually, I use a shop vac for water accidents. Learned this trick while raising a kid and not wanting to clean up throw up with paper towels. You just reverse the suction and empty and rinse the canister. Works like a pro!

Oh the water I've spilled! In literally every fashion listed above. Add to that the time I dropped the 5 gallon jug during filling.
My boyfriend said I had to give up fish or buy a shopvac and GFCI outlets.

my aqueon water changer, the gravel vac part came undone and the hose shoot out of my hand. I grabbed it and tried to stop it with my thumb(very dumb, but heat of the moment). it shoot all over my room for a sec. I had to run to the sink, it was already a pretty big mess. not one huge puddle but a lil bit of water everywhere. I now hold on the the hose and the gravel vac part

also over filled a 5 gallon bucket while vacuuming, but that's not to big of a mess.
