Water change chemical add ins

I was looking to see what chemicals people add during water changes. Right now I do a 50% WC and add
Malawi buffer for ph
Prime
Stability
Cichlid salt
Trace.
What do you do and am I doing it right?

 

Looks like you are keeping Africans. I do weekly 50% WC. I have a tanganykan tank. I use Prime, baking soda and epsom salt to achieve the desired pH and hardness.

 

Prime. That's all I use for a water change.

If your fish are happy, healthy and the water parameters are good then you're doing what you need to do.

 

Once you use up the Stability don't get a new bottle for this tank.

 

I don't add anything with a water change.

 

When doing a water change i just add prime, and every now and then I'll add some aquarium salt that's pretty much it.I don't think much else is needed unless you have special requirements for certain fish as far as PH etc. Not even sure if the aquarium salt is actually needed but some say it helps gill function and adds electrolytes so that's good.

You may not need to add Malawi buffer unless your tap water pH is very low.
Prime (or an equivalent) is a necessity if you need a dechlorinator.
If the tank is cycled you shouldn't need to add Stability.
Cichlid salts may be required if you keep Rift Lake Cichlids and your tap water is soft. A longer term solution may be to add some crushed coral to your filter which will at least reduce the amount of salts required.
You shouldn't need to add any other trace minerals.

FWIW I add dechlorinator during a water change and some liquid fertiliser following that. My tap water is suitable for my fish without any other additives.

 

I add the declorinater during water changes and that’s it. Prime is a declorinater too but a lot more expensive then the run of the mill ones.

 

I add nothing. Toronto tap water is already hard alkaline and perfect for what Im keeping
