Washing sand?

I've seen people rinse sand with tap water. I'm pretty sure they've never had any problems, but considering how terrible chlorine is to our tanks, shouldn't some of the chlorine wind up on our tanks and hurt the cycle and fish?
Should we wash the sand in dechlorinated water before adding it to our tanks then?

I washed my PFS with a hose, I haven't had any problems. You should be fine to rinse it in chlorinated water otherwise it'll be a waste of the dechlorinator since you have to rinse so much.

Yeah I know that people don't have problems, but it's just been bugging me about what happens to the chlorine. I guess to be extra careful you could soak the sand in dechlorinated water and then swish it around.

Or maybe after you finish washing, rinse it one last time in dechlorinated water?

That works too.
