I found this washed up from Lake Ontario and I liked it. It would be a great hiding spot for shrimp or tunnel my betta can swim through.

It is safe to use as long as a boil anything harmful out of it? Anything special I have to do to it?

Boiling it should be sufficient. What I do is boil for an hour in clean water, then let it cool completely and dump the water out. I then refill and boil again. This ensures tannins are leeched out, and that the wood will sink when placed in your tank.

Of your using it as a betta tunnel I would sand off the little nubs on the inside, it would be awful for your betta's tail to get caught on those.

Ya I know! I saw it and instantly climbed down boulders to get it it's definitely not one you typically find or see sold.

It really sucks that I only have a 10 gallon because it's really big and would take up half of it. One side of the tank is planted on driftwood I bought and he other is decorated with fake coral and stuff. I need a bigger tank but no space for one :'( lol

This is my tank now.

ohh....sad news and appreciate your courage to collect it.
I will surely buy a new tank for those driftwoods.
