My five Angelmania angels that I got last November have grown nicely and are beautiful fish. Until a couple weeks ago, they all lived together in an 80gal tank with a few guppies, a couple young bristle-nose plecos, and an 8 inch BGK. I expected them to start pairing up, and moved two out to an established 40 gal when they seemed to be defending a corner of the tank, leaving three in the big tank. I refer to them as Blackfish, Spot and No-Spot. Sometimes Blackfish hung out with Spot, sometimes with No-Spot.
So today I get home to find that Blackfish (female) and Spot (male) have laid eggs on a sword plant leaf, and are keeping No-Spot behind a castle on the other side of the tank. The only unoccupied tank I currently have is the 10gal that was in my classroom. I don't have a heater for it (the filter's on the 5gal with the baby guppies that were born the last week of school).
These are the options I'm considering:
1. Do nothing. As long as No-Spot stays on his side of the tank, the pair are pretty much leaving him alone. The eggs will probably be eaten during the night by the BGK or plecos, or the parents will eat them because of the threat.
2. Put the pair and their eggs in the 40gal, and move the two in there back to the 80gal, and hope this doesn't upset the pair and that the two from the 40gal don't start beating up on No-Spot again.
3. Set up the 10gal with water from the 80gal, transfer the eggs and put the 5gal heater in for tonight, then get another heater tomorrow.
4 A different, really good option someone here suggests that I haven't thought of.
