Well Bolivians are meant to be a harder fish.. GBR can be pretty fragile to water conditions.
Most people prefer the appearance of GBR over Bolivians.
GBR are much easier to sex which is handy.
Rams can go with a lot of fish... most tetras are fine.. so are corys.. loaches.. angles.. discus.. other rams.. BN..
Rams are a semi-agressive fish so there pretty good when it comes to tank mates as long as there is plenty of hidy holes and what not.
Good tip is to get plenty of driftwood, they use them as territory markers.. plus it adds to softening the water and if any tanins leak its a more natural environment.
Discus food is good for them.. brings out colour.. so does keeping the heat at 28 degrees.
They love bloodworms.

umm.. well yea there's heaps of pointers I have

would they get nippy with the other fish?

Ive only ever seen my Rams be nippy with the other Rams.. They seem to leave all the other fish alone. Unless pregant then they'll be very protective.

so they would be safe with something like guppys?

Depends on how much tank you have. A pair of rams needs at least 20 gallons, and if you put them in with a community I would ay at least 30 - not a tall.

well I'm thinking of getting rid of all of my platy and having a few guppies, neon tetras 1 bb molly, zebra danos ,3 green sail-fin mollys ,Humpback Limia and 1 or 3 rams in a 52.5 gallon with a marineland 400b,zoomed 501, whisper 10-30I on it would this work?

are the 400b and 501 filters? If you have more than just the whisper on it I would say that's enough filtration, but just the whisper is not nearly enough.
I don't know much about the limias, but the rest are probably okay, although I would worry about the danios being too much for the neons and the guppies. You'd have to keep a school of at least six danios to avoid aggression toward your other fish.

yes they are filters one is 400 gph and rated to 80 gallon and the other is rater to 30 gallon so the filters should be more then adequate

That might actually be too much XDD
Yeah, it'd be plenty.

I'm thinking 1 ram would it be better to get a male or female?

Eienna

I don't think it matters much. I do believe the males are a bit bigger than the females, though, and so might be more noticeable

Good luck! When I first got my Bolivian's, they were shy, but bloodworms brought them right out. When they were angry with me for transferring them and not eating, cichlid crisps from Angelsplus seemed to do the trick.

I'd love to get a GBR pair but they're just so expensive. And on top of that, everyone says they'll die out of nowhere.

Sorry to hear that. Everything I've been reading says the GBR is really sensitive to new tanks and can be a finicky eater when transferred. Out of curiosity, what were you feeding, if you even started feeding yet?

omega one, sinking cat pellets and nutrifin max , I saw them eating but it was less then a day that the fish lasted ,. should I exchange the dead fish for another ram or get a refund?

Why not try it again? be sure to acclimate properly and take your time.

I acclimated for a little more then a hour and added small amounts of water from my tank to there bag over time since they are sensitive

Yeah, it sounds like you've got it right and with it happening that quick, maybe it was an issue already there from the LFS. Give it another shot, I want to see! Lol
