So the test kit I ordered from walmart came in today, total cost $19.76 shipped to my door, and guess what this 'generic' looks like, well, here's a pic.

*Lot #'s end in 09 and 10, just figured I'd check to make sure.

I've bought two API Master Kits from walmart...Cheapest out there...And believe me, I've checked. Just pick up a syringe for easy test tube filling and you are set.

I may be going stupid, but I think I remember reading on Fishlore that the Walmart 'generic' is in fact the API kit re-badged ???

Obviously they saved money by not rebadging

Good morning,

I don't see that the kit in the photo is generic. If it were generic I don't think they would be able to carry the API label. (?) (I'm not certain on this)

Great find and a great price.

Ken, I think the point is that the generic kit was ordered, but Walmart accidentally sent the API kit.......

I'm thinking that they didn't bother rebadging it, there isn't an option for purchasing the API branded test kit. It's likely that they just purchase a 'no-name' generic from API and just happened to get them with labels instead. Whatever it was, it works for me

Yeah, our kit from walmart is the API one as well. I'm guessing that it is a non-compete thing.

Basically Walmart goes to companies and tells them what they are willing to pay for their product, and in return the company gets it's products on the most active shelves in America. Walmart dictates the price paid to the producer, and the producer either accepts it or dies off when Walmart goes with their competition instead. Walmart does allow them certain concessions on occasion, and a common one is that Walmart will not advertise the source of their product, so that the company still has a chance of selling it's product in other stores at their normal price.

So basically in this case, Walmart is not allowed to state that this is the API kit on their website so that API can continue to sell it's product for double the price in pet stores.
