Walmart story

Well I was at walmart earlier today with my mom. I was roaming around and someone wanted to get some fish. So I was just curious of what fish he wanted so I went to go check. While I was just at the fish center the guy asked the lady for some goldfish. I heard him talking to the lady if the fish would do good in a small tank he had and the lady said " yes they would do fine" I was just like " say what"? I knew that the lady didn't really know what she was talking about, So I went closer and asked him what size tank he had and he told me he had like a small square tank. He showed me like what kind of tank he had and it looked like a 1.5 gallon tank. I told him that goldfish are not suitable for such a small tank because of how big they can get and how dirty they are. I'm guessing he didn't have a filter In the tank. He didn't really know much about fish. So I helped him out a bit. He still wanted to get the goldfish because his son wanted some. So I suggested that he should get a betta instead. I told him that bettas are much easier to take care of and are quite hardy. Even though a 1.5 gallon tank might be a little small for a betta but is certainly better than a few goldfish. I told him to get a dechlorinator because he didn't have one and helped him get a few supplies. I also told him how to properly acclimate the betta and do a few water changes to the tank. He left happy with the betta. It felt pretty good helping someone out and I feel that there should be more people out there in fish stores or other store that tell the truth. It seems like stores now don't care about the fish and the customer but only the sales and money. I could imagine how many people go to walmart or other fish store and get the wrong information. Not knowing that the fish they just but bough will outgrow their tank in a few months Or that the few fish they just bought aren't compatible with each other. I don't know if I was able to do this what I did today at Walmart about telling a customer the truth. But I feel good that I was able to help someone out. Well this is my story guys thanks for reading.

A goldfish in a small tank will be dead in a week. But its good you tried to help him. Ive found that bettas are almost unkillable. Ive seen some nasty tanks with them in it and feel so bad for them because I know the water is probably terrible...

Yes thank you. A betta was a better choice. The goldfish would of died in a few days.

Thank you. There should be more experienced people that work with fish. But yet again, mostly stores just care about the sales

That is true. I worked at Walmart for a while and I tried to get into the fish and pets department because of my experience with fish, pet stores, vet clinics and grooming. Unfortunately, it was considered to be an "easy" position and only those with seniority (who mostly don't care much about the fish) were able to get the job. Some of the employees care, but the company doesn't really.

I live now in Canada. Where I am, Walmarts do not have fish. They are only just starting to get groceries!

I think he got a white and purple veil tail. The betta was all white but the tail was like different colors. It was a pretty good betta.
