Voodoo The Crested Gecko And Others!

Voodoo my first ever crestie arrived 2 days ago healthy, happy, and energetic! I purchased them from Josh's Frogs and I cannot say enough great things about them. I contacted them and was met with a friendly and informational staff member that helped me every step of the way. They (from my knowledge) overnight all live animals to lessen time in transit which I thought was amazing. Voodoo arrived in a perfectly packaged box and settled into her new 12x12x18 Exo Terra home in minutes and ate some pinhead crickets that same day (all feeder insects are raised and bred by me to ensure optimal health for my animals food source). Voodoo is 4 months and 30 days old so it's still a baby and therefore unsexed. Voodoo is a dalmatian harlequin with red spotting (will not show in pictures for some reason) and may be used as a breeder in the future but could possibly be kept as solely a pet (either works for me!). Please mind how bare voodoo's home is, its temporary as I'll be ordering the permanent home next week.

Below are pictures of my beloved Voodoo!

Cheese was sort of a weird one, cheese is what people would call a Las Vegas Leopard Gecko but what she is does not matter to me its the odd personality she has. Cheese is an adult female purchased from a pet store (Don't ask me which one, I did not buy her). Upon arriving home she displayed severe aggression but within a day she became tame. Age is unknown but it also does not matter as she is kept as solely a pet. She currently lives in a 40 gal breeder that I kept behind when I was breeding fish, as of right now we have her on paper towels which seem to do what we needed it to do. Now meet the all mighty cheese!

The all mighty cheese wonders if you're talking to her, because you MUST BE talking to her because she is the only only one there but she HOPES you're not talking to her

Your attempts to offer affectionate touching were deemed futile!

Now here's the other 3 geckos that are a bit more complicated, not in their nature but in their health. As you've seen cheese is looking thicc but I do have 3 other leopards that are not in the same boat as cheese. Before any comments are made NO I did not make them like this. They came to me in the condition that they are in now and with winter here I believe they went into brumation as they refused any and all food which worsened the situation. But recently they came out of that and are eating like crazy and even putting on weight and shedding. They still have a long way to go but please do not worry they ARE on the road to being in perfect health. These three geckos were dumped on me, kind of like cheese was and like cheese they were from a pet store. I don't think they have stick tail as i've noticed they are gaining some weight but I do think they were downright neglected in order for them to reach this point. In order to keep track of them they are on paper towels in there own 40 gallon breeders. Just like cheese they are now on a healthy diet of various insects that I either raise and breed myself or buy from a very reputable person. All of my geckos receive the right supplements and vitamins as well. I'm hoping with time these 3 will reach perfect health.

Note: I will ignore any hateful comments, I do not abuse my animals nor neglect them. I have a large amount of knowledge on all pets that I keep so I can provide appropriate care, the 3 geckos you are about to see are being cared for and are being nursed back to optimal health. Lets not focus on the devastating state they're in but instead enjoy how cute they look. Also you will see one has his tail kinda nipped, all three males were housed with multiple other geckos before I got them so I think some fighting went on

This is Yoshi, a little feisty one too

This is Mushoe, quite the sweetheart too

This is Normandy, wondering where the heck this water came from (hes going through a shed as well!)

I hope you guys enjoyed this! I love all of my geckos but i'm partial to crested geckos! I'm have plans to welcome 2 more cresteds named Chernobyl and Moon Baby so once they become a reality I will make sure to introduce them. Until then I'll keep this as a log where I can update you guys with facts, stories, and pictures.

Feel free to introduce your geckos (kind doesn't matter), share cage set ups, ask questions, get help, or just chat.

Beautiful! I have always wanted a crested gecko, but I have hermit crabs. My brother has a female leopard gecko, he calls her Zelda.

I've never been a fan of leopard geckos, in fact I used to hate reptiles entirely. I grew up around all kinds of animals including reptiles as my uncle is really into them but instead of trying to get me into them he ended up shoving a gardener snack into my face while I was securely strapped into a baby stroller so I couldn't go anywhere. So to say the least I was terrified of anything reptiles. Crested geckos are what won me over, my mom was the first to dive into reptiles (she was a fan of leopard geckos) but when I first seen a crested gecko I knew I wanted one. So happy that I finally got my hands on one!

Awe thank you! I did get lucky with voodoo, I'm attracted to contrasting colors and from what I seen voodoo was the only contrasting gecko left so I had to snatch it up

So they sent the crested in this terrible winter weather? I have thought occasionally about getting a lizard. I have narrowed it to a Uromastix because I want a vegan lizard who does not grow huge.

I know we kind of got off of on the wrong foot per say, and I apologize for that but I feel very strongly I need to give you some advice. Don’t take it hard or anything, I’m not trying to talk you away from breeding like I was previously, but I want you to know how to do it correctly for when that time comes.

I personally would not use this gecko as a breeder animal. (S)He’s a beautiful gecko, but he isn’t necessarily breeder quality. He’s a low expression harlequin with some contrasting colors, but not anything unique (nothing wrong with that). And I know you’re not in it for the money, because trust me - you’re not going to make a profit back for a very very long time, if ever, but the babies this gecko will likely produce will sell for $45-65. That again isn’t a bad thing, but they’re extremely hard to sell while also finding a suitable owner. If you sell high quality crested geckos, it’s extra insurance that the person recieving it will give it great care because they’ve spent a pretty penny on it.

I would keep this one as a pet and find other breeder quality crested geckos when you’re ready to start breeding. I would buy a few high quality babies (they’re cheaper) and some adults that have already been sexed (more expensive, but you know the sex and know they’re ready to breed).

Here are some examples of some breeder quality crested geckos:

I have a few other really nice quality geckos that I’ll have to get some pictures of for you, it’s just a pain to sort through 20+ geckos and try and decent get pictures lol

You can find geckos like this for absolute steal prices. Both of these geckos would go for well over $200 full grown, but we purchased the first one in a benefit auction for $30 as a hatchling, and the second one for $65 at a reptile expo.

And yeah you can ship geckos in certain temperatures the seller and the breeder should go over when they should have the gecko sent to make sure whether in both locations (and the facilities they’ll stop at) is at adequate temperatures. It’s a bit harder to ship reptiles in the summer because they can literally just cook. Reptiles can handle lower temperatures better than higher temperatures. But spring and fall is the best time for shipping, 100%.

Yes but its not a bad thing, they packaged the crestie beautiful so the winter was not going to harm it. I 100% trust them and would ship another animal from them in the winter, which I normally wouldn't trust a lot of other sellers. I think packaging is everything.

Awe! I'm so glad. Its been some time since I first got voodoo and its been nothing but amazing. Besides the fact that voodoo is shy and definitely jumpy (normal for babies) ive not had one issue with it.

Sorry guys for taking so long but I has come with updates!

*all my leopards are steadily doing better (referring to the 3 that were recovering from their own issues)

* Voodoo is doing amazing! Here's some photo updates and a tour of her/his permanent 18x18x24 home! Still bare but will start coming together really soon

*Also there's a new scaly member of my family...meet Nova the ball python...
Please excuse the aspen bedding, I have a large amount of eco earth shipping over to me so its basically temporary bedding. Also I only have one picture as nova is super new and I didn't want to really stress them out
