Hi. This is a small part of my 40g Breeder. These are two Firemouth Cichlids (originally bought and told they were Convicts, we didnt know any better w/ their size at the time.

Our tank is cycled, etc. they have since we got them (probably 2 mos ago) occasionally chased one another, but we have never seen this before. Is this a sort of mating, or fighting?

They are about 2" each. The one that may be slightly larger does better getting pellets.

    Mating, or fighting? Help please.

Fed twice daily, weekly 20-25% waterchange and test (no amm/nit).

Will post photos of them individually for sexing purposes, (I dont know how)

They appear to be slightly stunted, which may have happened before you bought them. They are quite small for mature fish, but the territorial fighting I'm seeing in those videos does not suggest mating at this time.

Firemouths are harder to sex than most people seem to think. Both sexes can have long filaments off the dorsal/anal fins, and both can be very brightly colored. Unless a breeding tube comes out, they cannot really be accurately sexed.

Never seen them fight like that. Are you sure its not mating behavior? I know they can breed young, but yes they are still young. They may be stunted, gonna start some bloodworms this week
