Very Shy Pleco?

Pleco is very shy of me, it's not even that the lights are too bright, when he sees me he does and hides behind the coral decoration. I've caught him many times when the lights are off, even when they are not, but when I walk up to the tank he's gone. He's big btw. How can I make him less shy? Also, I've tried to give him cucumber, he doesn't even touch it! :/

He's a common pleco, I actually got him and half his tank mates from a friend, who could not care for them anymore, I have them in my 65gallon, they had the fish for about 2-3 years. But I've personally had him for about 2 months now

 

Maybe add some more hiding places so he feels more secure?
65 gallons is much too small for him permanently.

 

That sounds like a Pleco to me.

Yes I plan on upgrading soon, the people I got him from had him in a 50 gallon for about 3 years, here's how big he is
