Very Serious Case Of Multiple Tank Syndrome

.... MTS!! HELP

I bought my 5 gallon tank near the end of March, then a 29 gallon 2 weeks later. Then I ordered a second 29 gallon set-up so my living room stays symmetrical. AND now my husband is going to look at a used 75 gallon tank & stand today. He was supposed to be looking for a cheap 10 or 20 gallon that I could use for my quarantine tank!!

Did I mention none of these tanks have cycled yet??? hahahahaha why did I do this to myself

 

I saw MTS and thought you were having a Malaysian trumpet snail infestation.

It's a very real issue, I have no space left at all but am currently window shopping for rimless nano tanks online!

I was thinking of getting a malaysian trumpet snail to burrow through the sand so quite possibly that sort of infestation will come up in a future post

A lot of folks here hate them, not sure why. They aerate your substrate and eat leftovers.

 

Sorry, can’t help. Started with one tank for my son. Now have three plus two quarantines, a shrimp jar and a snail bin. In eight months. I’ve got it bad.

 

Oh no, don't go too fast...else you may not enjoy your hobby of fish keeping when the work load / maintenance become too much to bear.
Go slow and choose your fish carefully...

I know of a fish shopkeeper who became bored and lost interest with keeping fishing after he started to work for a fish shop...

 

I’ve got mine set up so they’re not too bad to maintain. No water change is bigger than a bucket (on some tanks I do two a week), and I don’t fret about algae unless it’s really visible. It’s a bit of a pain right now with two quarantine tanks running, but that’s strictly temporary.
We actually had three quarantines running for half a week until son’s betta moved into his big tank, but maintenance on that one was son’s job - with reminders!

 

Haha I got a ten gallon tank for my birthday last year, with plastic plants and gravel. Now I have a 29 with sand and live plants! Who knows, next year maybe I'll buckle and get that half moon 50 gallon they had at the pet store!

Once you get the bug, it's hard to keep up. I'm lucky I have to pace myself due to finances aha? But forreal, slow down! The real fun starts when you get to watch the little fishes dance across the tank.

 

about 2 years ago I started with an 8.8 thinking I was just going to have a nice little betta tank with a couple plants in it....Wrong!! my next move was a 55 gallon petco kit then came to 10 gallon then the 20 long then a 5.5 then another 5.5 and now I had a 29 sitting there doing nothing so I decided to try an outdoor dirted tank with a sand cap....and well close to 2 years later that's where I'm at....and still looking for room to put my plants they are outta control!!!

 

I think I have MTS I stated with a 5 gallon then a 10 now a 65 and two tens on the way

I have plenty of room for some of those plants when you reach the point of not having room for them

My hubby is my brake when it comes to adding more tanks. Right now I have my main tank. A 55 gallon community. Then I have what started out as a temp. grow out tank for some molly fry and of course it is still up and running. I also have a 5.5 gallon with nothing but assassin snails living in it right now but I consider it my QT. and a 2.5 gallon jar with ramshorn snails breeding in it to feed the assassins. On top of that I have a 2.5 gallon bowl with a couple of assassins but it is mostly an experiment with a variety of plants in it.

Since I still do my water changes with the bucket method I really have as much as I can handle right now. I am afraid if I ever got a python I would be tempted to add more tanks

Me? Yes they are supposedly lab and possibly hound mixes me and my girlfriend rescued them 2 sundays ago. The boy on the left is Jett and the girl on the right is Jorja... They are a handful and a half but good little terrors I mean puppies

I'd use the current 5-gallon tank as a quarantine and window shop for the replacement. The problem is that you're going to fall in love with the 75 and before you know it your 29 will become a 100. Bigger tanks are so much better in so many ways. Plus once you have a good cycle going it's super easy to set up all these new tanks but suppppperrrr heavy on the wallet

Also, not saying they're bad. I have a few Nanos. You just don't get an option of waiting a month to do a water change. I find myself tending more to the smaller tanks then my bigger tanks

I was just poking fun lol.

And yeah, smaller tanks, ironically, are more maintenance.

 

The feels xD started with a single 3 gallon for my daughters betta. Upgraded that to a 5.
Now I have a 5, a 20, a 29, and a 10. Only the 20 is cycled lol

Double digits! The water changes would take an entire day !!

My dog is a great dane. She was still a puppy in that picture. Her head is much bigger than mine now XD

They both have their advantages and disadvantages for sure. I was feeling the limitations of the 5 gallon a day after buying it, but now that I have the two 29 gallons to play with, I'm excited about the 5. I think it will make a really nice planted tank with some shrimp.

The small tanks require a lot of maintenance, yes, but it only takes 10 minutes to do a 50% water change!!! So there is that!

We didn't buy the 75 -- both the tank and the stand looked pretty beat up. The seller also had a 55 for sale, in much better shape but if I got a large tank, I would want it to be large enough for goldfish.

I've definitely spent quite a bit on the 29 gallon tanks & stands but they are display tanks and I wanted them to look nice in our living room. It's been great to see how many deals there are on used tanks though!

Now I just need a koi pond in the back yard!!!! (my dream)

 

I was giv n a python, but my faucet is to big to adapt, lol… so for the 30 gallon I put a pump on a 5 gallon bottle of spring water and add directly , lol!

Yes, i'm still trying to figure out if I could get a python to work with our faucet. I might even consider getting a different faucet if necessary!!
