Very aggressive pearl gourami!

He's nuts! He's nasty! He's out of control!

He's chasing and trying to nip everybody.

My wife picked up a pearl and a gold gourami yesterday. The fish store wasn't knowledgeable, and said they were both pearls, so she got them knowing I been wanting pearls for awhile.

Anyway, he is aggressive to everyone. The gold opaline gourami (yes HE is the aggressor toward the gold), my platies, my rainbows, my glass cats, my bettas...he did back down from my large angelfish, but coincidentally it was time to rehome the angels to another tank of mine. So now he's trying to attack everyone.

/my complaints

Now for my question. Do I remedy this by adding more than one pearl, or do I remove him from this community?

I would take him out. You could add more, but this guy sounds nasty, and he might just pick on the other gouramis. Good luck.

I would also rehome him. You may add another and it may fix things, but if it doesn't, then you'll just have two fish to move.

Also, I know some species of gourami are not supposed to be mixed. I don't know about pearls and opaline gouramis specifically, but perhaps this is contributing to the problem?

I aso have 2 more 20's, a 29 and a 55. The 2 gouramis have been seperated. The pearl is in the 29 and the gold is in the 55.

I went ahead with it since it appeared to be the general rule as opposed to one aquarium as I've seen pearls, dwarfs and honeys mixed with female bettas plenty of times and they've coexisted.

But everyone should know that most everyone's been seperated since this thread was made. No gouramis or bettas or even angels sharing a tank anymore (even though everyone got along fine except the pearl he was the only problem but problem solved eh?).

I'm sorry you ended up with a mean gourami, I hate watching fish fight all the time I enjoy watching a peaceful tank myself.
I recently got a pearl gourami and I'm having problems with her to she is chasing my oto's away from there zucchinI and I'm afraid there not getting enough to eat she doesn't like the flake food that much. I'm hoping I don't have to take her back to the store I think she is really pretty.
