Vampire Swordtails

I just bought a Pair of Vampire Sword tails, and although I usually receive reliable info from the Aqua shop I usually do business with, I have this feeling I've been misinformed. It's my exp. that there are obvious differences between the sexes, have been breeding lives for a few years now, when I saw the vampires I couldn't resist getting a pair, the guy at the shop said I had a male and female , but my exp with swordtails left me doubtful, I've contacted the breeder, but for obvious reasons they were less than helpful, citing "this is a new breed and not a lot is known about them". OK my question is, do both Male and Females of the subgroup have the extreme display in fins and type, or are they the same as in the regular specie types the males have the display fins and the females are of regular fin shape? Any advice would be helpful. If I have to get a regular red velvet female to breed back to the male or males, I can get started, also the pair I have, show 0 interest in one another, even though all the conditions for the perfect breeding tank have been met. Thanks for any help!!!

...What are vampire swordtails? Is it another name for lyretail?

Swordtails are a live bearing subgroup originally from South America the males typically have a longer sharp bottom fin, they do have a sub group that look like lyre tails, I'm thinking the Vampires may originate from this group.

We know what swordtails are.... what she's asking is what the heck is a "vampire" swordtail?

If you give us a picture, we can help you sex them.

If they are some form of lyretail, you've got bigger problems even if you do have a female (male lyretails can't inseminate females naturally).

Thanks for the help guys!! sorry for the delay in responding (and the hard head) yea the problem is inability to breed (lyre tail off shoot) at least they'll make great pets, I'll put them in my display tank.
Thanks so much for the help!!

Sergeant - alargencommercial breeder- shows them as being a bright orange lyretail. There is a picture there. Google "vampire swordtail"

Ah, indeed. OP you're going to want to do some research on lyretail swords then. They are not really a "new breed", plenty is known about the genetics. Females will show an elongated analfin and spikes on the caudal so they can be difficult to sex. But like I mentioned males cannot inseminate females naturally so you'll want to obtain a standard finned male and a female lyretail if you want to breed them (or look into AI)

[Also it's segrest and they're an importer not a breeder but that's just me nitpicking ]
