Vacuum The Gravel

I do weekly 25%-30% water changes on my tank. My question is how often do you all vacuum your gravel? Do you do it with every water change or if you do weekly water changes do you vacuum bi-weekly?

Thank you,

Ashley

Whenever I do a water change I clean everything. I do my water changes biweekly because I have plants that keep the nitrates in check.

I normally do the vacuum with the Bi-monthly water change. I have larger tanks with canister filters that turn the water over 8-10x's an hour.

I skI'm siphon the substrate in all my tanks every water change regardless of plants. I can't do as thorough of a vacuum in heavily planted tanks however. Mulm accumulation in the substrate can be a breeding ground for bad bacteria including the one responsible for columnaris. It really depends on how many fish, what type of fish and plant load to get a good bacterial balance.

I don't have a set time where a vacuum, more like when it looks dirty, or when I want to. So between 2 times a week, and 1 every other week. It also depends on which tank to syphon

I do a light vacuum each water change, on our bettas tanks they are so small and produce little waste by themselves its usually clean enough. My 20 gallon community tank is a different story.

Depends on your stocking. If it is overstock, I would do it every week with 50% + water change.
