Vacation Food Or Take Them Home?

I have a 10-gallon tank in my classroom, which currently is home to four guppies. Next week, I'm off for Thanksgiving and am debating what to do with the fish.
I could take them home on Friday and let them hang out in my quarantine tank until I go back to school, but I'm wondering what that will do to the cycle, since there won't be any ammonia being produced. Would putting some food in there be enough to feed the bacteria and keep it going?
Or, I could buy one of those vacation wafer things and leave that for the fish. I've never used them before (always had a relative or friend take care of my fish when I'm gone), and am a little wary about not checking in on the tank for 9 days.
Any suggestions/recommendations would be helpful.
Thanks.

Dont use a vacation feeder. They dissolve faster than the fish eat the and foul the water. Fish can go easily 10 days with out food.

Do a big water change beforehand. They will be fine not eating for 9 days.

I may be incorrect, but most fish can go about a week with no lasting effects. Is there anyway you could feed them in the middle of the break. Like come to the school and feed them? If not I would just feed them well before you leave for break and well once you return. Vacation feeders often hurt more than help because they cloud the water and don't work well as far as food.

Feed them before you leave and let them fast for the week and a half your gone. They should be fine.

So I'm definitely not doing the vacation food! I think I'll just leave them there. I should be able to check on them on Tuesday for some food and a water change. Christmas will be another story, though. It's three weeks, and I'm having surgery and won't be able to drive for at least a week.

add a bunch of duckweed : it’s a food source that will last them a good while that also won’t add any ammonia
