I have a 10-gallon tank in my classroom, which currently is home to four guppies. Next week, I'm off for Thanksgiving and am debating what to do with the fish.
I could take them home on Friday and let them hang out in my quarantine tank until I go back to school, but I'm wondering what that will do to the cycle, since there won't be any ammonia being produced. Would putting some food in there be enough to feed the bacteria and keep it going?
Or, I could buy one of those vacation wafer things and leave that for the fish. I've never used them before (always had a relative or friend take care of my fish when I'm gone), and am a little wary about not checking in on the tank for 9 days.
Any suggestions/recommendations would be helpful.
Thanks.
