I am doing some reading on using UV sterilizers to prevent algae after a friend said it solved his algae problem. Does anyone here have experience or insight using them? It sounds like it could be good, but also sounds like killing off the bacteria in the water could be awful.

They work. They are a must have in ponds and salt water. I have one and use it for a few hours after water changes. Also worked great when the tank had ick. Ick came in on a plant. Plant was put in both tanks after water change. One tank had uv built into filter other didn’t. Only the tank without got ick and it was gone in 3 days after I added a uv.
