Uv Filter And Fin Regrowth?

I have a Male angel whom a year ago had his one pectoral fin torn apart and nearly ripped off, he was left with a tiny stubb on one side. I could never figure out how, it was there one day gone the next, I treated for fin rot and there was no change. I did frequent water changes and no improvement. I was sure it would never regrow as it had been a year with no further deterioration and no regrowth.

I put a uv filter in the tank for a completely different reason only to see his fin start to regrow. It's been about 10 days and his fin has doubled in size! I am completely amazed at the regrowth after such a long period of time. I'm wondering if it was something in my water that prevented the healing?

Now I'm contemplating getting one for all my tanks despite the cost. My only concern is that I breed fish and I'm worried that if I use a uv filter on the grow out tanks the fish won't adjust as well when they go to their new homes.

Has anyone experienced spontaneous regrowth of an injury after such a long time, or is this really due to the uv filter being added?

A UV sterilizer is control infections and stopping the spread of microorganisms from one fish/coral/invertebrate to another through the water.. I don't think his fin regrow because UV

What I can't figure out is why now? It's been a year since it happened and all of a sudden its regrowing. The only change that has been made is the uv filter. It's totally unbelievable to me.

There possible UV take out some microorganisms and bad bacteria make water more better quality that's why might re-grow faster.

He might have had a trauma to the injured fin which caused it to realize it could regrow - most angels that don't regrow ventral fins if they are cut down to a certain point (first spine along the fin).

Is that the same with the pectoral fin? If they rip/tear it to a certain point it won't regrow?

I wouldn't be surprised if he reinjured it or his mate injured it.

The pectoral fins should regrow (sometimes if the damage is severe it will grow back crooked) regardless of injury unless it goes all the way to the base against the body. It may have taken that long because the fin had sealed over the injury to prevent further issue/infection and it just now had a similar injury that caused the area to regrow as a fin instead of just being a stunted stub.

That could be it then because he did tear it right back to the body. His pectoral fin is naturally about 1 inch long by 3/4 inch high at the body (hes a very big angel). He was left with a straight pectoral fin (instead of the fan shaped one) of about 4 mm high by 1 cm long. Frankly I was surprised he could swim normally.

I can't honestly figure out what he would have hurt it on, there was no clutch at the time of the initial injury and no clutch now. He and his partner only ever squabble on day 1 and 2 of the wiggle stage. There's no sharp objects in the tank, it's mostly live plants in there with a few low lying ornaments.

Well to say the least I'm glad its growing back I have been a worried mother hen over him since the injury.

It was most likely his mate, they can deal quick damage and even cause organ issues/failure if they are ramming each other.
Most fish are okay after an injury and fins are some of the fastest ones to regrow because it doesn't take as much effort compared to a body injury to heal - clean water is your best friend for injuries when they first happen and during the healing process.
