Using Seachem Matrix...confused!

I've been using API Nitrazorb for a while to reduce high nitrates (due to high nitrates in tap water). Now trying out Seachem so I don't have to spend 2 hours recharging every week. Just a bit confused about how much I need and how to use it. I have a 250ml bottle. Working out the recommended amounts it looks like I need about 125ml but I struggled to get enough into my filter. Should I take out the sponge too? Didn't want to cause a minI cycle. Also am I even using enough? Reading threads on hear it looks like people are using a much higher ratio than I am...??? Anyone have more experience/advice?

Thanks!

What filter are you using? Matrix may not even be the best option.

Anyways, I suggest that you leave the matrix with the sponge for about 2 months before taking the sponge out. You might not even want to remove the sponge.

Note to self: biological media like Seachem matrix last forever, so make sure you don't replace it and if you have extras save some.

Thanks KittyFish62 I'm using a Superfish Aqua Flow 200

I had to take a little sponge out to fit matrix in but will definitely leave the rest of the sponge for a couple of months. I have some saved so maybe I could add that when I take the sponge out in a couple months?

Your welcome! I would use for larger filters like yours, but since your using matrix already, it's fine.

I got separate question for using Matrix. Should I keep low flow where Matrix is installed or let filter go full output? I used one of two baskets in my Fluval 106 canister for Matrix which allowed to place 1/2 litre (half 1L jar) of this rock. The goal is to reduce nitrate levels using Matrix.

low flow.
needs to be in the basket that last touches the water.

aerobic bacteria holds on to oxygen.
too much flow, there will be too much dissolved oxygen for them to hold on to.
so the dissolved oxygen goes through the media and not creating a oxygen free environment that the anaerobic bacteria needs.

I heard matrix needs less then 100 gph.
