Using seachem equilibrium and am wondering if I should also use seachem stability

I have been using R/O water for my 38 gallon tank containing 1 betta and 6 JuliI cories. I will be using seachem equilibrium and am wondering if I should also use seachem stability. Also, when adding these chemicals can this be done together or should it be done on different days? I also use seachem flourish for my plants and can that be added at the same time as well?

Yes. I add it once a month to all our aquariums just in case.

Great thanks. So I will continue using only r/o water and adding seachem equilibrium at every water change and the stability once a month. Now would I still add the stress coat at weekly every water change?

I never use it (never needed to) but there are those that like it. Hopefully someone will be along that uses it that can be more helpful in that regard.

Thanks so much! Have a great Easter!

If your tank is cycled, there's no reason to use Stability.

Stress Coat and Prime neutralizes heavy metals so you don't want to add Flourish within 24h of use.

Oh no I’ve been adding the flourish at the same time as I was adding stress coat. I was doing this once a week for about two weeks. Do you think my fish will be okay or is there something I should do?

Chandell - your fish will be fine. Though you might not have received the full benefit of the fertiliser. If you follow the seachem dosing chart - equilibrium at water change, flourish the day after. I don’t think you need to regularly dose stress coat unless something has changed I.e you’ve moved them or rescaped the tank or the fish are showing signs. Good luck with it.

Oh okay thank you so much! And because I am using ro water and will be using equilibrium than I do not need to use a water conditioner right?

No issues with your fish but Stress coat detoxifies the heavy metals in Flourish.

I personally prefer the wonder shell for mineralization and electrolytes as in my opinion it is superior to any alkaline buffer. I’ve never used equilibrium but since it is specifically formulated for use in RO/ DI water it may be better for that particular use. You don’t need stability unless your cycle crashed. Flourish and equilibrium can be used together no problems, Flourish and prime are also fine when added at the same time although as YesI'mCycled mentioned above the prime will remove the zinc, copper, iron and other metals in the fertilizer, but this may be better if you have inverts. Basically if you have inverts add flourish and prime at the same time, if you have plants that require iron and other metals (ie anything with bronze or red leaves) add flourish at least 24 hrs later.

with ro water what purpose would dechlorinator serve?

Prime is not only a dechlorinator it also detoxifies ammonia, and puts the water in a state of reduction therefore fighting oxidative stress. This helps the tank’s redox balance.

Ro water and a cycled tank tank don't have ammonia so no purpose there. All those other fancy words not a clue but in 20 some years I have never bought prime or any other "additive".

Flourish is invert safe so you're wasting it if you use it with Prime or Stress Coat.

I’m very sorry if I offended you, I didn’t mean it to come across that way. I’m just talking about some chemical science and the benefits that concentrated reducing agents such as prime have to an aquarium that doesn’t need to be necessarily dechlorinated. Some benefits to a good redox balance or a tank in a healthy state of reduction include better osmoregulation, less chance of illness, better healing abilities, and more breeding incentive. I am not trying to be an annoying know it all or impress anyone with fancy words, I just want everyone to have all the information they need to make a decision about their tank and what is healthy for their fish.

It depends which kind of inverts you have, some species can be sensitive to even the tiniest bit of copper sulfate which is present although you are correct in most cases it’s negligible.

so should I be using prime as well?

All I have in my tank is one betta and six cories and a few plants. No snails or loaches or anything.

Just add your flourish a day or two after using the prime, problem solved.

Sounds good, thanks! I just wasn’t sure as I have never used prime or equilibrium. I was only using flourish (just started) and stress coat and a water conditioner.

Is there a specific reason you're using RO water?

I just feel the water is better. I don't think my town has very good water out here

Your water conditioner serves the same purpose as Prime although I prefer Prime.

But with RO water, neither are necessary.

At my work house I have to use Prime because the tap is chlorinated. At my residence, we are on well water but I still use it in a lesser dose but it is probably a waste. Just makes me feel good.
