HI guys. I'm buying a used tank with filter and media in it. I was wondering if it's still good to reuse them. I scared there might be diseases or some sort. I will be cycling my tank thou. Thanks!

Good morning,

If you get to see the tank full and set up with fish before purchasing, then I might consider keeping the old media. If not, or if the aquarium has already been taken down and the media has dried, then I would replace it for fresh media.

I think its probably safe to replace it, mainly cause you have no idea what went on the tsnk. just my opinion

My policy on fish stuff - trust no one but yourself. I'd start with fresh media.

I'd thoroughly disinfect all the used equipment too. If it's a really old tank, I'd also consider replacing the silicone seals as well.

I would use new media and if you have no fish in the tank raise the temperature to 80-84 F to kill any disease that is in the tank.
