Used bioballs

I just picked up some used bioballs from craigslist for free. The lady I got them from used them in a saltwater setup. I'm (planning) to use them for my freshwater 29g.

I'm not sure how I should clean them. My plan was to just let them soak for a week in dechlorinated water, changing the water every few days or every day as if it were driftwood from the beach.

Anybetter ideas? They were free so I guess if I couldn't use them it would be no big deal.

there is prob no reason not to use them, but when it comes to cheap stuff like that I buy new. that might be the best way, maybe someone else has a better idea.

 

I would just soak in a light bleach and water bath for an hour and rinse them very very thoroughly. And your good to go.

Thanks for the tips! I was never planning to use bioballs but these basicly landed in my lap so I figured why not? My sump pump won't even be here till Friday, so I'm not in too big of a hurry.

I have never used bleach before. How much is a "light" mix

I use a 5 gallon bucket with 1 cap of bleach make sure the water is cool.

Thanks! I rinsed them in the bathtub this morning. I hadn't actually opened the bucket she gave them to me in since I picked them up on my WaY to work. The 5 gallon bucket was about half full and also had some dead coral in it aswell. I threw the coral stuff way and the balls had some grassy dried stuff on them so I need to rinse them a bit better. I think the garden hose he more pressure then our bathroom so hopefully that makes it easier to get that stringy grass stuff off. Hopefully these things are worth it!
