Use 2 Filters In Biowheel 200?

Bocks
  • #1
I have a 38 Gallon Tank and I have 2 Marineland Biowheel 200 filters running in it. It gives me 400GPH of filtration.

The Biowheel 200 Filters have 2 slots for filters. Should I be using both slots for a total of 4 filters?

Pros / Cons besides the cost associated with the extra filter media changes?

Looking for opinions / thoughts.

Thanks!

If they have two slots and can hold two cartridges without being clogged, yes! Those little cartridges provide such minimal media that I definitely would, and you rarely have to replace them (as in, replace them when they start to disintegrate) so the cost shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I have the Marineland Biowheel penguin 350...I just really pack it, from the bottom up, poly-fil (mechanical), a sponge and bio rings (biological). Just pack both sides up with that stuff.

Thanks guys. I have 4 filters in there now and I will continue to use all 4 going forward unless I hear of a good reason not to. The 6 packs of filters are like $7 on Amazon. I will change them on a rotation every 60 -75 days so its not much ongoing cost at all.

I have the exact same tank and filter and I just bought sponges and bio media. I did a lot of research and the sponges and media will hold so much more good bacteria then the cartridges marineland wants us to buy. The charcoal isn't necessary and the items I bought can be used until they are falling apart...that will take a long time.
